Delos: The Forgotten Mediterranean Garden at Sissinghurst Castle
with Troy Smith, Sissinghurst Head Gardener

Poet and writer, Vita Sackville-West and diplomat husband, Harold Nicolson purchased Sissinghurst Castle in the 1930s and spent 30 years turning it into a refuge dedicated to their vision of natural beauty and a model of a quintessential romantic 20th-century English country garden. An area within the garden known as ‘Delos’ was inspired by the couple’s visit to the Greek isle. Join Troy Smith as he shares an overview of Sissinghurst, including details of the Mediterranean beauty of the Delos garden. Troy’s first encounter with Sissinghurst was more than 30 years ago when he worked at the property as a gardener. After working for the National Trust at Bodnant Garden in North  Wales, where he led its restoration over seven years, he returned to Sissinghurst as Head Gardener in April 2013.
