Exploring Ladew
with Sam Robinson, Ladew Gardens 2022 artist-in-residence

Sam Robinson sees many exciting parallels between his life and that of Harvey Ladew — a love of gardening, horses, fox hunting, travel, the arts, and socializing. Sam is an acclaimed painter of scenes of timber racing, fox chasing, and local landscapes. Ladew’s beautiful gardens, scenes from his travels, luscious interiors, and dynamic gatherings are also favorite motifs. Working in gouache and oil paint, Sam’s style is characterized by fluent painterly realism. Sam was born in New York City and moved with his parents to South Korea where he spent his school years. Showing an early interest in art, his first formal instruction was in the Korean version of painting with ink on paper, an excellent start in brush handling. Since graduating from the Maryland Institute College of Art with a degree in painting, he has made his living as a professional artist and as the owner and founder of The Valley Craftsmen, Ltd., a decorative finish contracting firm.
